Aconga Drums and Percussion by Wildwood Instruments

Wood Varieties Page

**

We have added this page to our website to aid our customers in choosing the type of wood they wish their drum to be constructed of. Above is a photo of the different wood species we use for our stave construction drums. We are dedicated to using hardwoods that have been responsibly harvested. The hardwoods shown above (walnut, cherry and maple) come from a small, local farm where the trees are responsibly harvested only a few at a time. The wood is then milled and kiln dried to exact specifications for the greatest stability.

Please remember that the wood species shown above are readily available only for our stave construction drums. Our hand carved drums, however, are made from wood that is salvaged from constructions sites, storm damage etc. so we are unable to predict what kind of wood we will have at any given time. To see examples of previous hand carved drums, please visit our "Gallery of Unique Drums".

**A note about green poplar: Poplar very often has a greenish hue when freshly dried. This striking coloration usually changes over time to a warm sandy brown. We offer both cream poplar and green poplar as a fun and different alternative for our customers.
