Djun-djuns (also known as dununs or doun-douns) are an African style bass drum with two heads. They come in three sizes: the Kenkeni (small), Sangba (medium) and Doundoumba (large). Each drum produces a clear, resonant, deep bass tone. The three drums can each be tuned to a different pitch and played together as an ensemble to create intricate bass patterns. We offer both stave construction djun-djuns (strips of wood precision-joined for superior strength) or hand-carved djun-djuns. Available with cowskin heads. Stave construction djun-djuns (on the left in photo above) are made from responsibly harvested hardwoods (maple, cherry, walnut), pine or poplar.

Hand-carved djun-djuns (on right in photo at top of page) are available from a variety of trees salvaged from construction sites where they would otherwise be wasted and burned. Hand-carved drums are made to order on a commission basis.
