We have African djembes In Stock and available by special order! These drums are beautifully hand carved from a single piece of wood. Below are photos and descriptions of the drums we currently have in stock. If you don't see what you are looking for, please contact us so we can place a special order for you. We import only a small quantity of African djembe shells every year to minimize the impact on the African environment. We try to find drum carvers who harvest trees sustainably and are active in reforestation efforts. We are very particular in the quality of the shells we choose with a mind towards structural stability. Only the best professional grade djembe shells are used. Once the djembe shells are in our shop, we take special care to finish them with high quality oils and the best skins. We make the tension rings especially for each djembe shell for a custom fit and then use the finest low stretch, high strength rope available.

The djembe above is from Mali where the djembes are built with a strikingly round shape. The shape gives the drum a very high definition between bass, tone and slap. These instruments are some of the most finely hand-carved djembes in the world. The shell is exquisite with no cracks and a very smooth surface inside and out. The craftsmanship is so precise that without touching the shell, one may think it was turned on a lathe. The dimensions are 12.5" diameter head and approximately 22.5" tall. The shell is made of beautifully figured Blonde Hare and was oiled and finished at the Wildwood Workshop. The head is a tough goatskin with the edges folded down. Highest grade polyester rope holds the head tighter longer than other types of rope. Professional quality instrument suitable for the most demanding musician. $625.00

African Djembes Sold

THIS DRUM HAS BEEN SOLD.
This drum is from the Ivory Coast. It is made of Iroko wood and shows very beautiful, delicate grain configurations. The shell is completely sound having no cracks or filled spots. The shell was sanded smooth at the Wildwood workshop where it also received a good thick goatskin head and low stretch polyester rope. This djembe is approximately 12 inches in diameter measured from the bearing edge of the wood, not the rings, and approximately 24.5 inches tall. Professional quality instrument that will last longer than a lifetime! $425.00
